Last updated: 17 August 2026

Several major events overlap in Gothenburg between 21 and 30 August 2026. The Volleyball European Championship fills Scandinavium from 21 to 27 August, Göteborg Brinner takes over Bananpiren on 22 August, Göteborgskalaset runs from 27 to 30 August, and Swedish House Mafia play Ullevi on 28 and 29 August. Demand for central, transit-friendly accommodation will be high.
This guide helps you pick an area based on the events, travel time and total cost rather than the lowest headline room rate. Always confirm current availability directly with the property.
The events, day by day
The Volleyball European Championship runs at Scandinavium across seven days with 15 matches in total. On 22 August the metal festival Göteborg Brinner draws crowds to Bananpiren. Over the final weekend of the month Göteborgskalaset moves into the city centre while two large concerts take place at Ullevi.
- 21–27 August: Volleyball European Championship at Scandinavium
- 22 August: Göteborg Brinner at Bananpiren
- 27–30 August: Göteborgskalaset, centred on Götaplatsen
- 28–29 August: Swedish House Mafia at Ullevi
Best areas for affordable accommodation
Korsvägen and the event district sit closest to Scandinavium but can get expensive. Vasastan, Linné and Haga put much of the city centre within walking distance. Majorna can be good value if the property is near a tram stop. Staying close to the Central Station and the Nils Ericson terminal gives you easy connections to the arenas, Bananpiren and the Landvetter airport buses.
- Compare a private room against a dorm bed
- Factor in sheets, breakfast and local transport
- Confirm late check-in if you have evening events
- Choose a refundable rate when schedules may shift
Getting between the venues
Scandinavium and Ullevi sit in the same central event corridor. From Gothenburg Central it is roughly a 10 to 15 minute walk to Ullevi, while the tram is the easier option to Korsvägen. For Bananpiren and Götaplatsen, check your journey in the Västtrafik To Go app on the day, since events can affect services.
